Unfortunately, sometimes you have to deal with depleted rosters in some of your fantasy football leagues. You might be looking at backup running backs as your best options due to injuries, bye weeks, and the like.
Missing players due to ailments sucks, but with plenty of teams having BYEs in Week 14, the effect of injuries is even more pronounced.
Let's dive into three backup running backs and if they're good starts this week.
Should I Start Kimani Vidal for Fantasy Football?
Probably not. Los Angeles Chargers running back Kimani Vidal still hasn't had enough opportunities to make us comfortable with starting him. We'd like to see a bigger workload, and the presence of current starting RB Gus Edwards makes that hard to envision yet.
Kimani Vidal just had a 16-yard run. That's longer than any Gus Edwards or Hassan Haskins run this year.

That's not to say he isn't better than Edwards. He clearly is. But sometimes coaches aren't in a hurry to give enough touches to rookies to make them fantasy-relevant. This particular rookie had just four carries in Week 13. Don't start him yet, but it's fine to stash him.
He's the RB34 in our half-PPR consensus staff rankings.
Should I Start Braelon Allen for Fantasy Football?
New York Jets running back Braelon Allen would be a solid player to start if the team's RB1, Breece Hall (knee) isn't able to go. And Hall has now missed three consecutive practices, and has been downgraded to doubtful, making it seem likely that the rookie will get his first crack as the clear RB1.
Breece Hall (knee) and Sauce Gardner (hamstring) are doubtful for Sunday at Miami per Ulbrich and C.J. Mosley (neck) is headed to injured reserve.

There's another freshman RB on the team, though. Running back Isaiah Davis carried once for four yards and caught three passes for 28 yards and a touchdown. Perhaps the team views him as a good receiving back. Now-fired former general manager Joe Douglas made some head-scratching draft decisions because Hall is elite when healthy. Allen is still a risky start, but with a huge bye-week crunch and plenty of expected volume he's an understandable start for Week 14.
Should I Start Blake Corum for Fantasy Football?
Los Angeles Rams running back Blake Corum carried the ball eight times for 42 yards, averaging just under 5.3 yards per carry, in Week 13. It was easily his highest rushing total and carry count outside of garbage time this season. Still, lead back Kyren Williams takes too much work for Corum to be fantasy startable.
Really nice first carry from Rams rookie RB Blake Corum.
Displays good vision and hits the hole.
Beaux Limmer does an awesome job getting to the second level. Havenstein and Dotson with key blocks as well. pic.twitter.com/X8qbeiNAHM

Corum is simply better than Williams athletically, and it looks like he's making great strides in the mental part of his game. Some of us at RotoBaller wouldn't be surprised to see Corum take over the starting job... next year.
He's the RB44 in our half-PPR consensus staff rankings.

Who Should I Start for Fantasy Football Week 18? DK Metcalf, Brian Thomas Jr., Deebo Samuel Sr.
It can be a challenge to figure out which teams and players have the incentive to play their best in Week 18. That's why a lot of leagues finish in Week 17! It would be nice if we could assume that every player suiting up on Sunday was going to play their usual amount of […]

Figuring out which teams and players have an incentive to play their best in Week 18 is always a challenge. It would be nice if we could assume that every player suiting up on Sunday was going to play their usual amount of snaps or give maximum effort, but that simply isn't always the case. […]

Who Should I Start for Fantasy Football Week 18? Jauan Jennings, Courtland Sutton, Michael Pittman Jr.
The wide receiver position has an advantage over the running back position in PPR scoring formats, typically. Receivers' main job of catching the football leads to them scoring more points per touch, and those WRs that consistently get high volume can produce great results with a strong floor. Not every WR is like this, though, […]
