ANALYSIS: Brad Peacock continues to impress in his return to the rotation this season. What was supposed to be a temporary stay could turn into a permanent one if he keeps up his current ratios. Peacock is posting a 3.15 ERA, supported by a 3.38 SIERA. He's also inducing soft contact 25% of the time and striking out 33.6% of the batters he faces. Thanks to a superior slider that he throws one-third of the time, he is inducing a 12.8% SwStr%, which is by far the best in his career. Furthermore, opposing batters are only making contact 69% of the time, including a paltry 49% O-Contact%.
The fact that many of these numbers are far different than what he's ever posted may cause some concern because there's no track record to suggest he will keep it up. Especially concerning is the 3.7% HR/FB rate that will surely climb at some point. Peacock has been able to fool hitters by getting them to chase, but when they lay off it results in a walk 12.6% of the time. If he continues to get hitters to swing and miss on his slider outside the zone, he will be of great value to fantasy teams. Be wary, however, if his command starts to escape him or opposing teams catch on to his gameplan. For now, he deserves a spot in all mixed leagues, whether at the SP or RP spot.
