ANALYSIS: I remember when Denver drafted Bol Bol with a late second-round pick. Actually, Miami did but instantly traded him to the Rockies so it's the Nuggets who actually bet on Bol. It looked like an absolute steal considering the giant had been at one point ranked among the top-5 players of his class. It had happened in years prior with Michael Porter Jr., and Bol Bol felt like the next-great-for-cheap in line. Only, Denver just didn't have the patience.
Now, after three seasons of obscure development, Bol is finally blossoming and doing it in Disneyland--how fitting. Bol started the year coming off the pine for the Magic (five games) but he was showing so much talent and quite a unique skill set that he forced Orlando's hand and bulldozed his way toward the starting five.
Bol has started all last eight games with Orlando playing 28 MPG and only twice fewer than 25 minutes in that span. Considering Bol is scoring buckets from the floor at a 67% clip, and that he's already bagged 10 3-pointers in 13 games, that's entirely understandable.
Those numbers you just read are, simply put, unheard of in the history of the NBA. It's only been 13 games, yes, but nobody in the history of the association has completed a season shooting 67%+ from the floor while attempting at least 1.5 3PA per game as Bol is doing this year. The closest comp would be Gary Payton II last year hitting 61.6% of his total field-goal attempts hoisting 1.7 3PA per game. GP2, mind you, is a 6-3 guard compared to Bol Bol's 7-2 stance.
Rebounds and blocks seem to chase Bol instead of the other way around. Bol Bol is averaging 7.5 RPG and 1.9 BPG this season to go with his 11.5 PPG. Only four players are doing that: Bol, Anthony Davis, Myles Truner, and Nicolas Claxton. Bol's RBD% (17.9) and BLK% (7.8) rank 18th and 1st in the NBA.
The figure coming out of adding those two percentages up (25.7%) would be the sixth-largest in the league only behind Clint Capela, Steven Adams, Ivica Zubac, Nic Claxton, and Rudy Gobert. Only, none of those can hit a three to save his life. Just saying.
