The Jaguars (1-5) still haven't turned into a winning NFL team, but Blake Bortles has looked like a solid fantasy quarterback. His 242 pass attempts on the season are third-most in the NFL.
This season Bortles has been a quality option in every game after a sub-par Week 1, due in large part to the fact that he has not attempted less than 33 passes in any game. He has the fifth-most touchdown passes and sixth-most yards thrown on the season. He also has a stable corps of pass-catchers in Allen Hurns, Allen Robinson, and Julius Thomas.
Despite all of Gus Bradley's efforts to improve the defense, Jacksonville averages 29.3 points allowed this year, third-worst in the league. This probably won't improve, which is bad news for Jags fans, yet good news for Bortles' fantasy owners. Bortles will throw a lot and often in garbage time when he can pick up cheap fantasy points.
His value might be subdued over the next few weeks with a game in London against Buffalo, a bye and then a matchup with the Jets. But with an easier slate of games for the fantasy stretch, Bortles might outplay much higher picked players like the Peyton Manning, Drew Brees and Russell Wilson.
Bortles has shown clear improvement, surpassing his TD total from last season in just six games. He should be valued like a as a low-end QB1, yet he's still only owned in 47% of ESPN leagues. Add him now before that number gets any higher.
