BALLER MOVE: Consider in 16+ team leagues
POSITIONAL VALUE: DST2
ANALYSIS: The temptation to start a defense against a backup quarterback is always there. Just two days ago, an average Raiders' defense dominated a reserve signal caller. Fantasy managers with the Bengals DST would be thrilled with just a fraction of what Las Vegas did.
There are several distinctions between Las Vegas and Cincinnati. For starters, the Raiders' defense had quietly been a solid unit since interim coach Antonio Pierce took over. The Bengals, on the other hand, surrendered 30 points or more in three of the last five games.
The Chargers were also completely devoid of offensive talent on Thursday night. Star wideouts Keenan Allen (heel) and Mike Williams (knee, injured reserve) were out. Joshua Palmer was just returning from his own IR stint. Austin Ekeler has lost a step and was a complete non-factor. Minnesota is improving on offense. They'll be without running back Alexander Mattison, but All-Pro wideout Justin Jefferson will make his (second) return to the lineup.
Cincinnati is also statistically the worst defense against tight ends. It just so happens that Minnesota has one of the league's elite tight ends on their roster. T.J. Hockenson should feast on Saturday.
Nick Mullens has pushed through ups and downs in his career. Mostly serving as a backup, the former 49er has logged 17 starts. In those games, he's topped 275 passing yards seven times. With Jefferson, Hockenson, and rookie Jordan Addison as receiving options, it's not unreasonable to think Mullens can sling it against this beatable secondary.
