Andrew Cashner Has Decent Start But Gets No-Decision
Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Andrew Cashner went six innings and all he got was a lousy ND by his name. He gave up three runs and struck out three while walking two. He looks like he's slowly fitting in, but his 4.84 is still not something you want to start on a regular basis. See […]
Michael Griffin 7 years agoChris Davis Hits Homer In Win Over Royals
Baltimore Orioles first baseman Chris Davis, who was injured for a lot of Spring Training, may be getting on track. Davis hit his fourth homer of the year on Wednesday - a three-run shot that proved vital. The hulking slugger is now hitting .176, but he went yard for the second time in as many […]
Michael Griffin 7 years agoMark Trumbo Drives In Two Runs As Orioles Win
Baltimore Orioles designated hitter Mark Trumbo, who had only returned fairly recently, continued his hot hitting, breaking a 3-3 tie with a two-run single in the eighth inning of Wednesday's victory. The O's snapped a seven-game losing streak and Trumbo, who went 1-for-4 is now hitting .303. Yes, it's a small sample size and he […]
Michael Griffin 7 years agoJonathan Schoop Drives In Two Runs In Loss
The beautiful thing about fantasy baseball is that you're not penalized if your player drives in runs during a blowout. That was the case with Baltimore Orioles second baseman Jonathan Schoop on Tuesday night. He was returning from an injury and hit a two-run single in the ninth inning with Baltimore being down 15-3 at […]
Michael Griffin 7 years agoArodys Vizcaino Gets Save No. 5 In Win
Atlanta Braves closer Arodys Vizcaino has been lights-out when he comes in to pitch. The closer nailed down his fifth save of the season on Tuesday night. He did have to work around a walk, but it was a scoreless frame. Vizcaino has a 1.72 ERA and while he's not that high among the saves […]
Michael Griffin 7 years agoRonald Acuna Hits Mammoth Homer For Lone Run In Win
Atlanta Braves outfielder Ronald Acuna is showing why he's considered the No. 2 prospect in baseball. The 20-year-old crushed a pitch during Tuesday's game against Tampa Bay. The homer, which landed well beyond the left field fence, was his third of the season. He's making people sit up and take notice and health-willing, he could […]
Michael Griffin 7 years agoSean Newcomb Twirls Six Fantastic Innings In 1-0 Win Over Rays
Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Sean Newcomb tossed six stellar innings on Tuesday, and the lefty gave up a mere two hits while striking out six. He did walk three but he was never truly threatened. Newcomb is now 3-1 and his 2.88 ERA is very nice, indeed. He'll likely face the Marlins next, so he […]
Michael Griffin 7 years agoDylan Bundy Records No Outs In Horrific Outing
Wow. Let's just sit and unpack how bad Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Dylan Bundy was on Tuesday night. Not only did he give up seven runs in less than a full inning -- he didn't even get one measly batter out -- he did it in spectacular fashion. Bundy gave up four homers in less […]
Michael Griffin 7 years agoJose Bautista To Be In Braves Lineup On Friday
Joey Bats is back in baseball, everyone. Atlanta Braves third baseman Jose Bautista is being called up from Triple-A Gwinnett. If he's able to regain some of his form, he could make this Braves lineup even more potent. Wait and see how he does first, but he should be hyped to try to give the […]
Michael Griffin 7 years agoChris Tillman Only Lasts One-Plus Inning on Thursday
It was pretty bad. That's pretty much the only way to describe Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Chris Tillman's Thursday evening. The righty allowed seven runs, all earned, in one-plus inning. His ERA is an ugly 9.24 and he's toxic to even consider starting in your lineup. It's like 2017 all over again.
Michael Griffin 7 years agoRonald Acuna Goes Deep As Braves Maul Mets
We may all look back in about 15 years at the career arc of Atlanta Braves outfielder Ronald Acuna and realize how lucky we were to see him at the beginning. Or he could be Jeff Francoeuer, a good but not spectacular player. Acuna is off to a great start, hitting .382, and he clubbed […]
Michael Griffin 7 years agoJulio Teheran Carries No-Hitter Into Seventh Inning In Rout
It's an understatement to say that Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Julio Teheran was dealing on Thursday. The righty had a no-hitter until Asdrubal Cabrera broke it up in the seventh inning. Teheran finished that inning and ended his day with no runs, six strikeouts and two walks. His ERA is a respectable 3.65. The Braves […]
Michael Griffin 7 years agoChance Sisco In Lineup For Thursday's Game
Baltimore Orioles catcher Chance Sisco, who had a very unfortunate run-in with teammate Pedro Alvarez's elbow when both were trying to track down a foul ball on the third base side on Tuesday, is in the lineup on Thursday. He took the brunt of the collision and even seemed to lose consciousness for a few […]
Michael Griffin 7 years agoDylan Bundy Rocked In Outing Versus Angels
Wednesday night was another bad outing for Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Dylan Bundy. He didn't make it out of the fifth again, going only 4 1/3 innings. Bundy gave up seven runs, but only five of those were earned. He gave up three homers to Mike Trout, Albert Pujols and Justin Upton. It's already looking […]
Michael Griffin 7 years agoJohan Camargo Goes Deep In Win Over Mets
Atlanta Braves shortstop Johan Camargo has shifted positions to accommodate the impending arrival of free-agent signee Jose Bautista. Camardo apparently is not fazed by the move, since he clubbed a two-run homer on Wednesday as part of the hitting attack that helped them win 7-0. He's hitting .316 since his return from injury and that's […]
Michael Griffin 7 years agoEnder Inciarte Helps Beat Mets From Bottom Of Order
Atlanta Braves outfielder Ender Inciarte isn't taking his being moved down to ninth in the order personally. He went 2-for-4 on Wednesday, including hitting a mammoth homer late in the game. Inciarte drove in two runs and also scored two runs. He could be a decent start in a very deep league, but his fantasy […]
Michael Griffin 7 years agoSean Newcomb Stymies Mets For Seven Innings In Win
Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Sean Newcomb may have made Mets fans think back to those years in the late 1990s-early 2000s when they couldn't solve Atlanta pitching to save their lives. He went seven innings, striking out eight and walking none. Newcomb was pretty economical, too, leaving the game with under 100 pitches thrown. He's […]
Michael Griffin 7 years agoMike Soroka Outduels Syndergaard In Win
Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Mike Soroka apparently wasn't fazed that he was going to be matched up on Tuesday against someone whose nickname is Thor. Maybe Soroka felt like his glove was the Infinity Gauntlet. He made the Mets bats largely disappear during his Major League debut, going six strong innings while giving up a […]
Michael Griffin 7 years agoFreddie Freeman Drives In Two Runs In Win Over Mets
Atlanta Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman is a notorious Brave killer in his career. He went 2-for-5 and drove in two runs off Mets ace Noah Syndergaard on Tuesday. Freeman now has 21 RBI on the season. He's a must-start fantasy commodity.
Michael Griffin 7 years agoBraves Re-Sign Peter Bourjos
It was not a long farewell for Braves outfielder Peter Bourjos. He was released by the Atlanta Braves on Sunday and he was re-signed to a minor league contract on Tuesday. Right now, he's going to play in Triple-A Gwinnett and will be outfield depth should anyone go down with an injury.
Michael Griffin 7 years agoDarren O'Day Gets Second Save Of the Season
Baltimore Orioles relief pitcher Darren O'Day knows that he and Brad Brach are merely placeholders until Zach Britton comes back from his Achilles injury. He did his job on April 29, pitching a clean ninth to slam the door on the O's 5-3 win over the Tigers. He may have wrested the interim closer mantle […]
Michael Griffin 7 years agoPedro Alvarez Crushes Two Homers In Win Over Tigers
Baltimore Orioles third baseman Pedro Alvarez had quite the day at the plate on Sunday, April 29. He went 2-for-4 and drove in three runs. Both of those hits were of the trot-around-the-bases variety and they were his fifth and sixth of the season. He's quietly starting off the season on a 30-homer pace. It's […]
Michael Griffin 7 years agoBraves Activate Tyler Flowers From Disabled List
Atlanta Braves catcher Tyler Flowers is back on the active roster. He was taken off the disabled list on April 27 and could play over the weekend. Friday's lineup had not been released yet. This means Kurt Suzuki will resume duties as a backup. They also sent Matt Wisler down to Triple-A and designated Carlos […]
Michael Griffin 7 years agoSean Newcomb Goes Six Innings But Winds Up With No-Decision As Braves Win
Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Sean Newcomb had a decent start against the Reds on April 26 as far as pitching in Cincinnati's tiny stadium. He gave up four runs over six innings while striking out seven. Atlanta and the Reds were tied at four when he departed, so he was not involved in the decision. […]
Michael Griffin 7 years agoAdam Jones Drives In Two Runs As O's Fall To Rays
It's too bad that Baltimore Orioles outfielder Adam Jones can't pitch. He did great at the plate on April 26, going 3-for-5 and driving in two runs on a two-run homer. It was all for naught as Baltimore lost to Tampa Bay 9-5. If you need an outfielder, Jones has been pretty hot of late, […]
Michael Griffin 7 years agoOzhaino Albies Drives In Three Runs As Braves Beat Reds
Atlanta Braves second baseman Ozhaino Albies is one of the new faces of the franchise. He went 2-for-5 on April 26 and hit his eighth homer, a two-run shot, en route to a three-RBI day. He's got 16 RBI and he's going to be going up against the Phillies next. There should be even more […]
Michael Griffin 7 years agoDylan Bundy Roughed Up By Rays In Loss
By the time Baltimore Orioles starter Dylan Bundy staggered off the mound after giving the ball to manager Buck Showalter on April 26, he'd given up eight runs in 4 2/3 innings. One of those runs was unearned, so it was seven. Still, it was a terrible showing coming from someone who many consider to […]
Michael Griffin 7 years agoRonald Acuna Hits First Homer In Win Over Reds
Atlanta Braves outfielder Ronald Acuna has wasted no time in announcing himself to the world. He went 3-for-4 on April 26, and hit his first Major League homer off the aptly-named Homer Bailey. Acuna drove in two runs and also scored two runs. While this may be a case of Major League pitchers needing time […]
Michael Griffin 7 years agoJake Guentzel Has A Goal And Two Assists As Penguins Shock Washington
Pittsburgh Penguins center Jake Guentzel has been just as potent as teammate Sidney Crosby in the playoffs. He scored his seventh goal of the postseason on April 26 in Game 1. He also had two assists, which gave him nine. The Penguins are loaded and are looking to be skating around the rink with the Stanley […]
Michael Griffin 7 years agoMatt Murray Keeps Caps At Bay Long Enough For Comeback Win
Surely Pittsburgh Penguins goalie Matt Murray wasn't worried during Game 1 on April 26 despite an early 1-0 deficit. He likely knew that his team was capable of catching fire at any time, and he was right. Murray stonewalled the Washington Capitals in the second period and then allowed a second goal and then saw […]
