BALLER MOVE: Add in 14+ Team Leagues
OWNED IN: 6% of leagues
ANALYSIS: Austin Romine has been around forever (he debuted back in 2011) but never amounted to much. In fact, the most games he has played in a single season were 80 back in 2017. The most PA he has seen? 265 last year. This season doesn't look like a huge jump in terms of game time, but what Romine has been able to do lately has put him up there in the consideration list of additions of those playing in deep leagues.
The Yankees are having terrible injury-luck this season. They are losing players on a daily basis. That means more opportunities for scrubs and lowly used players on average. Enter Austin Romine. Just in July, Romine has 13 H, 8 RBI, 2 HR and was even seen stealing a base. All of this while maintaining an otherworldly .433 AVG. During his last 50 PA, he's posting a .428 wOBA (prior to that he was at .161), showing how scorching hot he is at this moment.
I don't want to make you believe Romine is a no-brainer to add at this point, much less given the true performance we can expect from him going forward. But in the context of a Yankees team ravaged by injuries, there is a good chance he keeps finding chances at the plate. As long as he keeps up his production, he should be considered for a deep bench role to play him if the chance pops.
