BALLER MOVE: Start in All Leagues
POSITIONAL VALUE: RB1
ANALYSIS: Austin Ekeler has failed to score double-digit PPR fantasy points in each of his last three games. Given his track record of consistent high-end RB1 production, his stretch of down weeks has been a major disappointment, and it has likely costed fantasy managers matchups.
However, running back production is scarce around the NFL, so he remains a must-start option in a great Week 14 matchup. Ekeler is slated to face the Denver Broncos, who have surrendered the most fantasy points per game to running back this season. Five running backs have scored at least 20 half-PPR fantasy points against the Broncos, and 11 running backs have posted double-digit fantasy points against its defense.
With Ekeler struggling, this is a perfect "get-right" spot for the veteran back. With Quentin Johnston, Jalen Guyton, and Gerald Everett struggling to step up in the absence of Joshua Palmer (knee) and Mike Williams (knee), it would be surprising if Ekeler doesn't see an uptick in targets, too. Last season, he saw at least seven targets in nine contests, but he hasn't seen more than six targets since Week 10 this season. That could change in the AFC West bout.
Ekeler clearly has a lower floor than in previous seasons, but his ceiling keeps him right in the thick of the RB1 conversation. Start him with confidence in Week 14. Although the Chargers have hinted at getting Joshua Kelley more involved, expect Ekeler to be the lead back in crucial situations like third downs and red zone opportunities.
