The 2024 NFL Draft class lacked a superstar running back prospect. After Bijan Robinson and Jahmyr Gibbs were top-15 picks last year, Jonathon Brooks was the only running back drafted in the top 60 this year.
While the 2024 NFL Draft class lacked a superstar prospect, multiple running backs landed in appealing fantasy football situations. Audric Estime and Will Shipley were two of those running backs.
However, which running back should fantasy players draft in 2024? Let’s dive into it.

Audric Estime 2024 Fantasy Football Outlook
Estime had an outstanding college career, totaling 366 rushing attempts for 2,261 yards and 29 touchdowns over his final two years at Notre Dame. The Denver Broncos used the 147th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft on the rookie running back, making him part of a crowded backfield.
While Javonte Williams is the current starter, many believe Estime could take the lead role away from the veteran. Unfortunately, the rookie had a small-scope procedure done on his knee. However, Sean Payton said Estime will be ready for training camp later this month.
#Broncos HC Sean Payton on Audric Estime (knee):
“We did a small scope procedure, just to make sure everything’s clean — it is. He’ll be available at the start of training camp.”

Will Shipley 2024 Fantasy Football Outlook
Shipley averaged over five yards per rushing attempt at Clemson. Furthermore, the rookie had 11 or more rushing touchdowns in two of his three college seasons. More importantly, the former Clemson star had 85 receptions for 602 receiving yards and two touchdowns in college. Shipley has shown off his pass-catching abilities this offseason.

The rookie running back was the 127th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Shipley will compete with Kenneth Gainwell for the backup spot behind Saquon Barkley. While the former Penn State star will be the featured back, the rookie should beat out Gainwell for the No. 2 role.
Who Should I Draft?
Both rookie running backs had outstanding college careers. However, only one could become a starter in the NFL this upcoming season. Shipley will need an injury to Barkley to earn a significant workload. Meanwhile, Estime could beat out Williams for the starting role. Furthermore, the Broncos could explore trading away Williams during the preseason, giving Estime more upside.
