ANALYSIS: As a current 26-year old, Anthony Ranaudo has unfortunately gained the reputation as being a failed prospect of sorts, but it isn't time to give up on him yet especially considering the White Sox are calling him up to start on Wednesday. The top 100 prospect from 2011 has struggled in his 69 IP in the MLB with the Red Sox, Rangers, and White Sox; and holds a 6.39 ERA, 1.54 WHIP, has produced a lot of walks and HR at 4.8 BB/9 and 2.2 HR/9, and very few whiffs at 4.3 K/9. However, Ranaudo has looked great in Triple-A Round Rock and Charlotte. In Charlotte he had 13.1 IP in three starts with a 2.02 ERA, 0.750 WHIP, 2.7 BB/9, 12.2 K/9, and didn't allow a HR. In Round Rock he boasted a 3.35 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, and although he had just 6.1 K/9 and allowed 1.4 HR/9, he showed great command with just 1.0 BB/9. That was in 96.2 IP through 16 starts for an average of 6.02 innings per start. Ranaudo has had a lot of bad MLB starts, but his six year career in the minors has shown that he is capable of durable starts, off and on high strikeout volume, and serviceable though inconsistent command. He may always be vulnerable to HR, but he had stifled them at every level, so he could be destined to turn his career around.
