Anthony Gose will split time with Cameron Maybin manning center field in Detroit this season, and will likely bat ninth when he is in the lineup. Gose hit primarily in the lead-off slot last season, but appeared in the ninth slot 36 times, especially after manager Brad Ausmus began inserting Ian Kinsler into the lead-off position more regularly. On days when Gose is in the lineup, it makes sense that Ausmus would follow the same strategy, leading off with Kinsler and slotting Gose into the ninth slot as a swing-man of sorts. Gose had a solid year at the plate in 2015, slashing .254/.321/.367 and stealing 23 bases. Gose showed crazy base stealing potential in the minors, swiping 76 bags in A-ball and 69 in AA. Still just 25, Gose is continuing to mature as a hitter, and as he ups his AVG and OBP numbers, it stands to reason that his SB numbers would also increase. For a bottom-of the order bat, Gose is a nice option for fantasy owners who are looking for 30 SB potential to add to the bench.
