Amir Coffey (SF, LAC): Week 15 Waiver Wire Pickups

Amir Coffey is worth considering as a fantasy basketball waiver wire pickup heading into Week 15 of the NBA season.

ANALYSIS: We've reached a point of no return when it comes to accepting Amir Coffey and his role in the Clippers. Coffey is here to stay, full stop. Paul George is out and could miss the whole season. Kawhi Leonard recently brought news of a potential comeback this year... but with PG13 out that's definitely not happening. The Clips lack warm bodies all around the rotation, so Coffey was forced into a heavier role and he's been good enough at it. And that should stay the same ROS.

Coffey has now started eight games in a row for LAC while playing  32 MPG in those matches. This is not just a fluky and random set of games he's just started to instantly hit the pine and play some twenty minutes. Far from it. The usage rate (14.5%) has been quite low, yes, but even then Coffey is hoisting 9+ FGA per day as a starter, and pretty much all of the possessions he takes for himself he's doing so with actual shots and no turnovers to his name (0.75 TOPG).

Amir Coffey is doing his thing all across the board: 13+ PPG, 4+ RPG, 3+ APG, 1+ SPG in this recent starting stint (going back to Jan. 8) are the per-game averages. He's hitting a ridiculous 2.5 3PM in that span and has scored 1+ in seven of those eight games, topping at five and hitting 3+ four times. Just for context, and on the full season, the likes of Rozier, Vooch, Dinwiddie, Tobias, Butler, Irving, or Hayward are averaging something close to that 13-4-3-1 baseline. Coffey has done so in a way smaller timespan, but he's been so good in that frame that he's turned into a must-add through WW these days.
