BALLER MOVE: Start In All Leagues
POSITIONAL VALUE: High-End RB2
ANALYSIS: Few running backs have aged as well as Alvin Kamara. The Saints' star is heading into his eighth NFL season and remains one of the most productive and reliable running backs.
Kamara missed four games in 2023 but still finished with 694 rushing yards, 466 receiving yards, and six touchdowns. The five-time Pro Bowler and former Rookie of the Year has the Saints' backfield all to himself after Jamaal Williams and Kendre Miller were major disappointments in their first seasons with the team.
Kamara has never rushed for 1,000 yards in a season, but what makes him special is his pass-catching ability. In that department, he's just one rung below Christian McCaffrey. He averaged six catches per game last year and has three 100-target campaigns under his belt. The pass-catching factor makes Kamara a very solid value in PPR leagues.
Finally, Kamara has a very favorable matchup against the Carolina Panthers in Week 1. For starters, the Saints are heavy favorites against Carolina, meaning that New Orleans will likely deploy a run-heavy attack.
More important, though, is the fact that the Panthers have one of the league's worst defensive lines. Outside of Derrick Brown and Jadeveon Clowney, the unit lacks experience. Carolina's defensive line ranked as the fourth-worst in the NFL heading into the preseason, according to PFF.
Between his talent, consistent production, and favorable matchup, Kamara remains a must-start weapon heading into Week 1 of his eighth NFL campaign.
