If you started kickers Jason Myers or Ryan Succop last night, then you had a pretty good start to your fantasy week. If you started nearly anyone else, then you didn’t. That may be a bit dramatic but last night’s contest featured an abundance of field goals and a shortage of touchdowns. The Jacksonville Jaguars stayed very much alive in the AFC South divisional race, beating the Tennessee Titans 19-13. But were any fantasy owners really happy after last night? Let’s take a look at last night’s performances and what this could mean moving forward in the season.
Allen Robinson finished with five receptions and 113 yards, a stat-line that would have still only got 16.3 points in PPR-formatted leagues. It was also the second week in a row Robinson has scored below his projection. It isn’t time to worry about Robinson, though. He is still Bortles’ favorite target and a WR1 the rest of the season.
Delanie Walker picked up 109 receiving yards on eight catches, also only really effective in PPR-leagues. He has been the one consistency on the Titans offense and has emerged as the top target for Marcus Mariota. It would be unwise and difficult to ever shelve Walker. He is a weekly TE1, especially next week when the Titans face the Oakland Raiders.
Allen Hurns may have been the most disappointing from last night, but the receiver has been battling through an abundance of injuries. Hurns was only targeted four times, finishing with three receptions and 19 yards. It’s the first week since Week 2 that Hurns didn’t find the end zone, although it isn’t time to worry about him either. He will now have over a week to rest and is a WR2 moving forward.
Antonio Andrews was the top rusher for both teams with 78 yards on 15 carries, adding 16 receiving yards on two catches. Again, even in PPR-leagues this wasn’t enough to pump your fist and feel confident about an early lead. It is difficult to start any running backs on the Titans. Dexter McCluster finished with zero yards on two carries and in his anticipated debut, David Cobb finished with negative three yards on four carries. Neither of the three are an RB2 in any format.
T.J. Yeldon underperformed and failed to reach 100-yards rushing for the third straight week. He would have only broken through the ten point ceiling in PPR-leagues. This has become somewhat worrisome, now in the latter part of the fantasy season, especially since Denard Robinson jacked seven of his carries; his largest amount since Week 6. Yeldon is still an RB2 but should be monitored. If he can’t get going, it may be time to look elsewhere now with playoffs looming.
The best news to emerge out of last night's game was Julius Thomas finally scoring a touchdown. It was his first score since Week 6, and put the Jaguars ahead with 3:30 remaining in the fourth quarter. Although even with the touchdown, he too failed to reach the ten point plateau in standard leagues. Hopefully Thomas can ride this momentum. He remains a TE1, but should be monitored as well.
