ANALYSIS: The other “Allen” in the Jacksonville Jaguars’ passing game, Allen Hurns is poised to become his team’s new number one option. With Allen Robinson gone for the year with a torn ACL, the Jags find themselves in need of a new number one option for quarterback Blake Bortles. Hurns, the Miami native, is more than capable of being that guy, as evidenced by his 2015 season.
That year, the 25-year-old recorded 1,000 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns, still career highs. Last year, however, he suffered a hamstring injury and missed the final six games of the year. This past week, Hurns led the receiving corps with 82 yards and a touchdown, putting himself ahead of the pack for now. While he faces stiff competition from Marqise Lee, Hurns’ relationship and experience with Bortles give him the edge.
Jacksonville’s schedule features matchups against the Jets, Colts, Bengals, Chargers and Browns all in the near future. Matchups against weak defenses of this caliber mean good things are in store for Hurns and the rest of his offense. While he may not be an immediate starter, those future prospects make him an investment with incredible possible potential. At this point, owned in just nine percent of leagues, he should be fairly easy to pick up.
