ANALYSIS: Alfred Blue had one of the best games of his career just in time for the projected return of Arian Foster. The second-year running back ripped off 139 yards and a touchdown on 31 carries against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and led the Houston Texans to their first win of the season.
It’s a great sign for the Houston running game, which struggled mightily through the first two weeks of the season averaging less than 80 yards per game. Blue’s big game could allow Houston to be more patient with Foster, who is returning from preseason groin surgery and only returned to full practice last week.
There’s no doubt that the job is Foster’s when he returns, but Blue may have one more big game in him. Joseph Randle gouged the Falcons in the first half of last week’s game, and there’s no doubt that Bill O’Brien will want to replicate that plan this week when the Texans head to Atlanta. Coach O’Brien says that Foster will be a game-time decision. If he doesn’t suit up and Blue is still on your wire, he’s a free RB1 that may make the difference between victory and defeat in Week 4.
