There were questions about the job security of Chiefs GM John Dorsey and head coach Andy Reid prior to Kansas City's game against the Detroit Lions, and rightly so. Kansas City was a disappointing 2-5 after many predicted a breakout season for the team, with their only victories coming against the lowly Texans, and a Roethlisberger-less Steelers team. The Chiefs defeated another weak team on Sunday, but did so in convincing fashion, blowing out the Lions 45-10 in London.
The Chiefs were led by quarterback Alex Smith, who had a tremendous game, showcasing his passing ability and rushing ability in the Chiefs victory. Smith threw the ball for 145 yards and two touchdowns, one to Travis Kelce, and the other to Jeremy Maclin. Smith may have also decided to be a running back for Halloween, because Smith had an amazing day on the ground, rushing for 78 yards and one touchdown on five carries. Smith continues to be a solid QB1 option.
Owners of Jamaal Charles who either handcuffed him with Charcandrick West, or were lucky enough to pick West up on the waivers have been happy with him for the past two weeks. After rushing for 110 yard and one touchdown against the Steelers in Week 7, West continued his solid play against the Lions, rushing the ball for 97 yards and one touchdown. West also added four receptions for 25 yards. Though the sample size is small thus far, it's safe to fire up West as an RB2 in Week 10 against the tough Denver Broncos defense.
As far as Kansas City's receivers are concerned, there wasn't much to go around, which is expected when Alex Smith is playing quarterback. Kansas City's leading receiver was Travis Kelce, who had 49 yards on six receptions, and one touchdown. Jeremy Maclin had just 35 yards on three receptions but salvaged his performance with a touchdown. Kelce continues to be a top-flight TE1 option, while Maclin is more of a WR2.
