BALLER MOVE: Target at end of drafts
CURRENT ADP: 373
ANALYSIS: Alex Colome is a relatively unknown fantasy commodity pitching for the Tampa Rays. The 27-year-old Right-hander started 141 of the 145 games he pitched in the Minors, but may profile as a power reliever in the Show. Colome had an 88:31 strikeout-to-walk-ratio in 109.2 innings for Tampa in 2015. He made 13 starts and had 30 relief outings. With Jake McGee departed for Colorado and incumbent closer Brad Boxberger rehabbing an abdominal injury, Colome looks to be the next man up to save games in Tampa out of the gate.
Manager Kevin Cash has not fully committed to Colome as his ninth inning guy, but that may just be a motivational ploy. Colome fared considerably better as a reliever in 2015 than as a starter. Facing 149 batters as a reliever, he held hitters to a .262 average and a .584 OPS without surrendering a home run. Facing 264 hitters as a starter, Colome allowed a .277 average and .763 OPS while surrendering nine home runs. The Rays currently have five starters and Alex Cobb pushing towards a second half return as he rehabs from Tommy John surgery.
Colome is in position to not only pick up saves out of the gate, but can cross over into a starting role if necessary depending on the overall health of the rest of the staff. You'll want to closely monitor the situation in Tampa, but Colome figures to be right in the mix all year.
