ANALYSIS: The Padres are calling up their second-round pick from the 2022 draft, right-handed starting pitcher Adam Mazur to help fill the void left in their rotation by Yu Darvish and Joe Musgrove (both on the IL).

Mazur is the fifth-rated prospect in San Diego's farm system and has only 147 innings of minor league experience, including just 19 innings at the Triple-A level. He dominated at Double-A San Antonio this year, posting a 1.95 ERA and 0.87 WHIP across six starts.
But he struggled at Triple-A El Paso, racking up a 7.11 ERA and 1.32 WHIP in his first four starts. He had 18 strikeouts across 19 innings but allowed four home runs. The PCL is notorious for being a hitters league, so perhaps we take those stats with a grain of salt.
Mazur doesn't have overwhelming stuff, but he does have elite control and command of all his pitches. He's only an add in the deepest of formats until we see what he can do at the major league level and whether or not he will earn the opportunity for multiple starts.
