Fantasy Baseball Impact Of Aaron Hicks Being Placed On The 10-Day Injured List
The Baltimore Orioles placed outfielder Aaron Hicks on the 10-day injured list on Tuesday due to a left hamstring strain, per a tweet from the American League East club’s official Twitter account.
The Orioles tweeted the following:
Hicks is batting .230 with a .320 on-base percentage, seven home runs, and three stolen bases in 228 plate appearances split between the O’s and the New York Yankees. He’s been markedly more productive since joining Baltimore.
The veteran outfielder is batting .252 with a .349 on-base percentage, six home runs, and three stolen bases in 152 plate appearances since donning an Orioles uniform.
Per the club’s tweet, the Orioles recalled fellow outfielder Ryan McKenna from Triple-A to take Hicks’ place on the active roster.
McKenna has split the year between Baltimore and the franchise’s Triple-A affiliate. He’s been reasonably productive in the majors this year, hitting .253 in 89 plate appearances to go along with a .315 on-base percentage, a pair of home runs, and a stolen base.
However, with Austin Hays, Colton Cowser, and Anthony Santander all ahead of him on the depth chart, McKenna might not see regular starts or playing time. Given the somewhat crowded outfield picture in Baltimore -- which also includes Adam Frazier, who can shift from second base to the outfield -- this is probably a situation to avoid for fantasy managers, even those in deeper leagues.
