Upon trading for Hicks, it seemed that the Yankees would ship Brett Gardner. Even though that hasn’t happened, yet, Hicks could very well see a lot more playing time than that of an ordinary platoon outfielder. Hicks posted a .870 OPS and .307 average against lefties last season and will likely start against all south paws, replacing the departed Chris Young who owned that role in 2015. Joe Girardi hopes to play Hicks four to five times a week, benefiting an aging and injury-prone Yankees outfield. Hicks will need to improve against righties if he wants to sustain his place on the field in a more permanent role, but deserves a late-round look to stash away on your bench in deeper leagues, as he is a also a stolen base threat.
