BALLER MOVE: Add in 14+ Team Leagues
OWNED IN: 12% of Fleaflicker Leagues
EXPERT ANALYSIS: If only Aaron Altherr had been healthy on opening day, he might have put together quite a season. After missing four months due to wrist surgery, Altherr finally saw his first action of the year on July 28. Since then has racked up nine RBI along with two HR and three SB in just seven games. Could this German-born player be the NL version of Max Kepler? He isn't pulling the ball as frequently or selling out for power like Kepler. In fact, Altherr has never even reached 15 HR in a minor league season. Then again, neither had Kepler...
Altherr has stolen as many as 37 bases in a season and the Phillies are clearly giving him the green light already. He showed a glimpse of his power/speed skills in 137 at-bats with the Phils last season, with five HR and six SB. He posted an .827 OPS in 2015 and is up to .912 in limited time this year. The on-base skills are there due to a fairly high walk rate (10.6% in MLB action), but his minor league career batting average is .263, so his current .259 is about right. Although the Phillies lineup isn't the most desirable destination, Altherr has enough potential to be worth a flyer in deep leagues, given his ability to help in HR/SB.
