A New Fantasy Football Dynasty Challenge: Take Over a FFPC Orphan Dynasty Team

The FFPC (Fantasy Football Players Championship) is the place for serious fantasy players to compete in dynasty leagues for high-stakes action. Scott Engel tells you why it is great idea to claim an orphaned FFPC dynasty team.

As fantasy football players, we all love the game because it gives us a chance to act as an owner, general manager and coach of a team. Many of us have griped about our favorite NFL teams at times, believing we could do a good job of taking an existing franchise in a different direction. It would be a lot of fun to actually assume the controls of a team that needs new guidance, and retooling or rebuilding it into a championship squad.

Now you can actually have that opportunity through the Fantasy Football Players Championship (FFPC). During the offseason, you have the chance to buy a dynasty team, take it over, and rework it in own vision. You can fulfill the fun dream of buying a "franchise", introducing yourself as the new team owner and changing the outlook after another fantasy player has put the team up for sale. This is your chance to accomplish what Steve Bisciotti, Jerry Jones and Paul Allen all did: They bought a team and won championships.

Heck, if you don’t like the way Jerry is doing things, you can do it better in the FFPC. In this case, however, you may get a nice discount on the price of your new “franchise.” And did we mention? All 2021 dynasty players on FFPC are eligible for a $35 discount on any dynasty team, startup leagues or orphaned teams

Be sure to check all of our fantasy football rankings for 2025:

Why you should buy an FFPC “Orphan” Team

Every offseason, some FFPC players put their existing teams up for sale on the league site. You can review and purchase teams right here, ranging anywhere from original value of 77 to 5000 dollars. Yet the appealing part is that many of the teams can be purchased at a discounted rate from the original listed price. Or, on some of the higher priced teams, you can make an offer to purchase the team.

The teams are sold on a first come, first serve basis. The discounted rates allow you to jump right into the mix of an existing league and start making trades while you also dive into planning for your upcoming rookie and free agent draft. You don’t have to go through the entire process of drafting the team and constructing it here, you move into current team management mode right away.

There is a thrill to starting up a dynasty roster and taking it to the top. It’s very satisfying to see all your work rewarded. Yet it’s another, unique sort of challenge to conquer to assume control of an existing team and reconfigure it into a winner. Can you take what may be broken and repair it? There’s a major sense of a new goal realized when you take a “fixer upper” team and transform it into an FFPC champion.

Making the Franchise Purchase

When reviewing the list of teams available, and deciding which one to buy, you simply have to consider your own personal budget and how much of a challenge you want to take on. Personally, the better the team available, the less of a challenge to me it is to make it a satisfying turnaround. My first-ever fantasy football team was one I bought from someone else who wanted out of a league. I took it over early in the season, make a significant amount of add/drops and pivotal trades, and won a championship. That became a rare feat to brag about.

When viewing the 77 dollar FFPC dynasty teams, some are fully priced to claim, and those often make sense when you view the rosters. Yet the discounted teams present more of a unique challenge I want to take on. But if you want to leap in and take over a team that just needs a few tweaks to possibly win a league title, go for it. You will still profit in the end, and that is a primary goal.  Here are two of the lowest-priced teams for a comparison on how much reworking it would take to make it a potential league winner.

SUPERFLEX TEAM 110

QB: M. Stafford (DET), P. Rivers (IND), C. Newton (NE)
RB: C. Carson (SEA), N. Chubb (CLE), D. Montgomery (CHI), M. Gaskin (MIA), J. McKissic (WAS), W. Gallman (NYG)
WR: A. Thielen (MIN), R. Anderson (CAR), A. Green (CIN), N. Agholor (LV), J. Crowder (NYJ)
TE: M. Andrews (BAL), D. Njoku (CLE)
PK: J. Sanders (MIA)
DF: NO

DRAFT PICKS: 2.09, 3.01, 5.01, 6.01, 7.01

Team 110 has three very good RBs in Nick Chubb, David Montgomery and Chris Carson, and one surefire Superflex in QB Stafford. Adam Thielen and Robby Anderson are a quality duo of WRs and Mark Andrews is obviously a top TE. The team lacks a first round pick, but this is my kind of “franchise” to take over. It’s priced at just 49 dollars, and I can possibly trade a RB to in a deal to get that second QB. Stafford could be headed for a big debut season with the Rams and I just need a decent starter next to him with Philip Rivers retiring.

TEAM 143

QB: J. Goff (LAR), S. Darnold (NYJ), M. Stafford (DET)
RB: J. McKissic (WAS), K. Hunt (CLE), S. Barkley (NYG), P. Lindsay (DEN), R. Burkhead (NE)
WR: A. Robinson (CHI), A. Cooper (DAL), D. Slayton (NYG), H. Ruggs (LV), V. Jefferson (LAR), W. Fuller (HOU)
TE: H. Bryant (CLE), T. Hockenson (DET), A. Hooper (CLE)
PK: J. Sanders (MIA)
DF: BAL, LAR

DRAFT PICKS: 1.04, 2.04, 3.04, 4.04, 5.04, 5.08, 6.04, 6.08, 7.04

If I want a faster track to winning a title and finishing in the money, then I may opt for Team 143. It is worth the full 77 dollar price tag. Stafford sets me up nicely at QB and I also inherit instant core players such as Saquon Barkley, Allen Robinson and Amari Cooper, plus Will Fuller and T.J. Hockenson. There is a future upside with Henry Ruggs and Van Jefferson.  Plus the team has a fourth overall draft pick. I can hit the ground running on the way to quick contention and winning league prizes.

I can also find a nifty challenge at a higher price as well. The $500 Dynasty Team 21 here is up for sale at half price, yet it already has Lamar Jackson and Aaron Jones, plus a very interesting crew of RBs.

TEAM $500 DYNASTY #21

QB: L. Jackson (BAL), D. Brees (NO)
RB: A. Jones (GB), C. Carson (SEA), J. Kelley (LAC), D. Dallas (SEA), L. Murray (NO), L. Bell (KC)
WR: M. Williams (LAC), C. Kirk (ARI), R. Gage (ATL), T. McLaurin (WAS), J. Brown (BUF)
TE: A. Hooper (CLE), D. Schultz (DAL), T. Higbee (LAR), R. Rodgers (PHI)
PK: W. Lutz (NO)
DF: KC, NE

DRAFT PICKS: 1.06, 2.06, 4.06, 5.06, 6.06, 7.06

Carson seems destined to start somewhere else in 2021, and plays at a very high fantasy level when healthy while getting the optimum amount of work. Joshua Kelley has some sleeper potential as he develops, and DeeJay Dallas could be an eventual flex play. This team also has Terry McLaurin and some promising WRs in Mike Williams and Christian Kirk. With a patient approach and two appealing picks earlier in the draft, this team has a foundation for future contention. It will be a lot of fun to buy the team and make it into a better one over the next two years or so. It’s very exciting to watch your favorite pro sports teams first start to show promise, than become a true contender. Making that process happen yourself is very compelling and rewarding.

Perfect for Traders

There are many of us who can’t get enough of making trade offers and completing deals. Buying an unclaimed FFPC Dynasty team is for you. No matter which team  you choose to acquire, making deals will be a key to overhauling the team. So start perusing the list here, and make a team that needs your help and guidance into one that will grow into an FFPC champion. You can register for the FFPC here, through a special RotoBaller offer.
