ANALYSIS: Ayo! How about this rook!? Ayo Dosunmu already had the best name in the game, but he's also now in possession of a solid role in the L too. Ain't nothing wrong with this man, all things considered. Truth the told, the Bulls might not be too happy having to start Dosunmu these days after signing Lonzo and Caruso this past offseason, but different issues have both sitting on the shelves so it's not that have many more options available other than Ayo and Coby White. Alas.
Dosunmu started seven games between Jan. 15 and Jan. 26 playing a ridiculous 39 MPG. Zo and Caruso will be out for a month-plus. You do the math. Ayo is putting up nightly 14-5-6-1 lines. That's crazy to read, even though the playing time is hella high. The truth is that Ayo only shot an average of 10 FGA a day on a super low 14% usage rate over those seven starts. The shooting percentages have been bouncy and have fluctuated a bit, but Ayo's FG% is still up at 56.1% in the past couple of weeks with only one match below a 30% accuracy from the field.
There aren't many rookies locked into such a safe starting role as Dosunmu is these days and will be for the next month. Let alone those fantastically tasty minutes he's logging. The turnovers are high because, well, growing pains, but Dosunmu is basically doing it all on scoring, rebounding, assisting, and stealing cats and has been good even for swatting 17 shots over the year for an average of 0.4 BPG. Not a ton of freebies, but great points numbers even without them and the ability to stretch the floor.
