As fantasy football managers are putting the finishing touches on their rosters for Week 17, every piece of injury news is critical to picking up and starting the right combination of players.
Let's check in on the injuries for Washington Football Team running back Antonio Gibson ahead of his team's Sunday game against the Eagles.
Is Antonio Gibson playing this week? Should I start Jaret Patterson if Gibson is out? Is there someone else on the team you should pick up and play in his place? Let's take a look.
Is Antonio Gibson Playing This Week Against the Eagles?
I'm not going to draw this out: Antonio Gibson is out this week. Earlier this week Gibson was placed on the COVID-19 list, and he will remain there which means he won't be playing against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 17.
Last week, Gibson played just 22 snaps in a blowout loss to the Cowboys as the team rested him in the second half because, well...the final score was 56-14. Gibson did have a receiving touchdown before exiting.
Is Jaret Patterson Worth Picking Up and Starting?
This week, it looks like Jarret Patterson will be starting. In the Dallas game, Patterson played 15 snaps, finishing with nine carries for 33 yards. He should be in line to start on Sunday against an Eagles team allowing the 14th-most fantasy points per game to opposing running backs, which would be make him someone you could play as a low-end RB2.
Could Jonathan Williams Hurt Patterson's Value?
Patterson will be the lead back, but Jonathan Williams will be on the field. Last week, he led the Football Team's running backs in snap rate at 40 percent.
Williams only had three carries for nine yards and one catch for two yards. I'm not at all concerned that Williams will have a fantasy-relevant role of his own, but he'll be on the field, which takes some opportunities away from Patterson.
Overall, this makes me consider Patterson to be a mid-tier RB3. By now, he should be off your waiver wire, but if for some reason he isn't, pick him up. Even if you have better options, your opponent in the title game could use him. And hey, he'll be a solid option in a pinch.
