As fantasy football managers are making lineup decisions for Week 15 and their playoff matchups, some last-minute COVID situations will shape their decisions and separate the winners from the losers.
New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones strained his neck in the Week 12 win over the Philadelphia Eagles and missed the last two weeks. Let's check in on the team's QB situation heading into their Week 15 divisional clash against the Dallas Cowboys.
Is Daniel Jones healthy enough to make his return this weekend? If he misses his third straight game, is Mike Glennon worth starting? Below we'll go more in depth on Jones' injury status and discuss the Giants QB situation.
Is Daniel Jones Playing in Week 15 Against the Cowboys?
Daniel Jones has been limited in practices ever since he initially strained his neck in Week 12, but he will miss his third straight game with a strained neck. Although the Giants continue to believe that he'll play again at some point this season, time is running out with only three games remaining following this weekend. The 24-year-old will not be allowed to play on game days until doctors clear him for contact.
When Jones was healthy, it's not like he was lighting the world on fire. Aside from an outlier 402-yard performance in Week 4 against the New Orleans Saints, the third-year signal-caller had a career-low QB rating of 41.9 with 2,428 passing yards, 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions on 232-for-361 passing in 11 games.
The Giants receivers have been beat up for most of the season and unproductive when on the field, though, so Jones hasn't exactly had a ton of help. It's a big reason why Jones doesn't have a single three-touchdown game in 2021.
Is Mike Glennon Worth Starting in Week 15?
You'd have to be pretty desperate in a superflex league that allows two starting QBs to even be considering using Mike Glennon in lineups in Week 15. The fact that the Giants are even thinking of using Jake Fromm, a second-year player that was on the Buffalo Bills practice squad not even a month ago, tells you pretty much all you need to know about Glennon.
This Giants scribe takes it one step further:
New York has lost Glennon's two starts by a combined 27 points, and he ranks 23rd out of 23 QBs to start in Weeks 13 and 14 by Pro Football Focus. Glennon has completed only 50% of his passing attempts for 378 yards, two touchdowns, two interceptions, a 61.4 QB rating and a lost fumble in his two starts. He's been sacked five times.
The Cowboys have actually been somewhat generous to opposing QBs in terms of fantasy points this year, but that doesn't mean Glennon will be worth starting as a QB2 streamer on Sunday. There's not much hope for a Giants offense scoring only 17.8 points per game (tied for fifth-worst in the NFL).
Daniel Jones can't come back soon enough, but in another lost season for the G-Men, is it even worth risking his long-term health at this point?
