Charlotte Hornets shooting guard Cody Martin (illness) has been ruled out for Monday's game against the Bulls due to a non-COVID-19 illness. Martin's absence will mark his first game missed of the season, making it unclear how head coach James Borrego will distribute his sizable minutes allotment among the second unit. Known primarily for his defensive acumen, Martin is on pace to average new career highs with 7.7 points and 4.1 rebounds, in addition to shooting a whopping 47.6 percent from behind the arc. Kelly Oubre Jr. could see a slight minutes bump without Martin available, while James Bouknight could join the rotation. The next chance for Martin to suit up comes Wednesday vs. Milwaukee.--Jesse Borek

Phoenix Suns guard/forward Cody Martin (hernia) will not debut for his new team until after the All-Star break. Phoenix will be in action twice before the break, playing out a back-to-back set on Tuesday and Wednesday. Martin hasn't played since Jan. 24 due to a sports hernia. Before moving to Phoenix, Martin averaged 7.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.3 assists in 24.8 minutes with the Charlotte Hornets. It's unlikely he will get near these numbers with his new team, as there are now a lot more bodies ahead of Martin on the depth chart.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller

The Phoenix Suns acquired forward Cody Martin along with guard Vasilije Micic and a 2026 second-round pick from the Charlotte Hornets in exchange for Jusuf Nurkic and a first-round pick. While the trade was mostly about moving Nurkic, Martin is an interesting addition to the Suns. The 29-year-old has been limited to 39 games this season but has produced 7.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.1 steals in his 24.8 minutes per game. He has shown good upside in higher usage situations, and he could work his way into a meaningful role in the Suns' second unit, but his role is very undefined at this point.--Zach Thompson - RotoBaller

The Charlotte Hornets announced forward Cody Martin (abdomen) has been ruled out for Friday's game against the Los Angeles Clippers. Martin will miss his fourth contest in a row due to a sports hernia injury. Josh Green (foot) is listed as probable for this evening, so if he can suit up, he will take a large amount of Martins minutes on the floor. Josh Okogie and DaQuan Jeffries could also see expanded roles versus the Clippers.--Andrew Lennox - RotoBaller
