New York Islanders center Mathew Barzal had the lone highlight for the Islanders on Monday night. He scored on a breakaway just less than three minutes into the contest. Barzal had four hits and two shots on goal on the night. This is as much of an indictment on what surrounds the center. The Islanders need a constant depth presence, and not with players like Zach Parise. Barzal is up to four goals and four assists in a dozen games.--Chris Wassel - RotoBaller

New York Islanders forward Mathew Barzal (lower body) will be out indefinitely, the team announced on Monday. Barzal suffered a lower-body injury in Saturday's 3-2 overtime win against the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Islanders star also missed time with an upper-body injury earlier in the season. He has skated in only 30 games, recording six goals and 20 points. Anthony Duclair skated on the first line instead of Barzal on Sunday against the Florida Panthers. His struggles this season continued, as Duclair went scoreless in a 6-3 loss without registering any shots on goal. For the season, Duclair has scored only four goals and eight points in 23 appearances.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller

New York Islanders forward Mathew Barzal (upper body) has been ruled out for 4-6 weeks. The Islanders star was injured in Wednesday's 2-0 loss to Columbus. Barzal has been placed on long-term Injured Reserve. With Barzal out, Anders Lee and Jean-Gabriel Pageau joined Bo Horvat on the first line on Friday versus Buffalo. The trio remained intact for Saturday's practice and will likely see more time together in Sunday's Battle of New York against the Rangers.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller

New York Islanders forward Mathew Barzal (upper-body) has traveled back to New York to see team doctors about an upper-body injury. Barzal played in Wednesday's game against Columbus, logging 22:46 TOI, but evidently something happened late in that game or the day after. Barzal will not play Friday against Buffalo and could be looking at a long-term injury based on the way the team is talking about it. The Isles are already having trouble scoring, so their best offensive player missing any chunk of time would be a dagger.--Matt Garon - RotoBaller

New York Islanders center Mathew Barzal scored in double overtime in Game 4 on Saturday, helping his team avoid a four-game sweep at the hands of the Carolina Hurricanes. The 26-year-old tipped a Robert Bortuzzo shot to beat Frederik Andersen just 1:24 into the second overtime frame, notching his second goal of the game after tying the tilt at one apiece midway through the second period. Barzal had tallied just one assist through the first three games of the series but came up big when his team needed it the most on Saturday. Game 5 of the series goes Tuesday as the series switches back to Carolina.--Brenton Kemp
