4 years agoThe Chicago Blackhawks have signed defenseman Erik Gustafsson to a one-year, $800k contract on Sunday. The 29-year-old, who was previously on a PTO with the New York Islanders, will begin his second stint in Chicago - the organization in which he posted his career-best 60-point season back in 2018-2019. Gustafsson will likely play on the team's third defensive pair and should hold down a role on the second power-play unit as well. The Swedish native has played with the Flames, Flyers and Canadiens over the past two seasons.--Chase Davis - RotoBaller

4 weeks agoDetroit Red Wings defenseman Erik Gustafsson (undisclosed) was not able to practice on Thursday. Gustafsson suffered this injury during their contest on Tuesday evening and could be in danger of missing their next game on Saturday against the Vegas Golden Knights. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status as he may need to miss time. Over his previous six contests, Gustafsson has tallied just one point (a helper) with four hits and four blocked shots. Through 60 games this season, Gustafsson has found the back of the net twice and added 16 helpers. Gustafsson has been effective on the power play, tallying eight of his helpers on the man advantage. In addition, Gustafsson added 28 hits with 44 blocked shots. If he were to miss Saturday's game, William Lagesson could enter the starting lineup.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

6 months agoDetroit Red Wings defenseman Erik Gustafsson will come out of the lineup for Sunday's contest against Edmonton. He will be a healthy scratch for the third time this season. The Red Wings brought Gustafsson in on a two-year, $4 million contract this offseason to add some offense to the blue line, but the Swedish rearguard has been a disappointment so far. Despite averaging over three minutes of power-play time (3:19), Gustafsson has only two assists with 10 shots in six games for the season. Justin Holl also takes a seat on Sunday, with Olli Maatta and Albert Johansson drafted into the lineup.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller

1 year agoNew York Rangers defenseman Erik Gustafsson enjoyed his reunion with the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday, producing three assists in a 5-2 win. With the game tied at two in the third period, Gustafsson set up Braden Schneider in an even-strength situation and helped Artemi Panarin register a power-play goal. He was also eager to get a goal against his former team, finishing with three shots on the net. Gustafsson has ended an eight-game dry spell with four points in two games, but he's stuck on the third defensive pairing when everybody is healthy, making it difficult for him to provide consistent offense.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller

2 years agoThe Toronto Maple Leafs continued to rework their backline with another move on Tuesday, trading for defenseman Erik Gustafsson. The team gave up fellow blue-liner Rasmus Sandin and also received a 2023 first-round draft pick in the deal. Gustafsson has played a major part in Washington this season due to John Carlson's (face) injury and boasts 38 points through 61 games. He will likely have a tough time replicating the numbers in Toronto, with the Maple Leafs blue line now full of quality. Meanwhile, Sandin, who's also been in fine form this season, should get a bigger role in D.C., which will boost his fantasy value. The 22-year-old has tallied 20 points across 52 outings with 58 shots on goal, 113 hits and 59 blocks.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller
