Cordarrelle Patterson (RB, ATL) - Week 3 Waiver Wire Pickups

ANALYSIS: It's a bird... it's a plane... it's the greatest kick returner of all time! You never thought you'd read this, but here it is: Cordarrelle Patterson led his team in fantasy points this weekend, finished as the RB4 through Sunday night games, and as the top-19 player of the week. Uh, oh, flex on them. Yes, everybody got hyped with RB Mike Davis getting to an empty backfield in Atlanta's, but so far, so good for Patterson and his 31.2 PPR points above Davis' 23.5.

Bonus track: Patterson is eligible at both RB and WR in Yahoo leagues. Can't get much better than being a FLEX of a FLEX, am I right? After a stinker of a game in the first week of the season, Atlanta got things moderately right this past Sunday and Patterson helped the Falcons at everything. Rushing, CP put up 11 yards on 7 carries (not good) but scored a TD on the ground (very good). Receiving, he logged 6 targets, caught 5 of those passes for 58 yards (all good) and scored his second touchdown of the day, this one through the air (great).

The only blemish on Patterson's stat line was a fumble, but it couldn't prevent him from reaching 22.9 PPR points on the day, almost tripling the 8.7 FP he put up in W1. Obviously, Patterson is not going to be a top-12 rusher weekly, nor will he end with 20+ PPR points steadily. Mike Davis has posted 10.2 and 13.3 PPR points in his first two games and is the clear go-to guy on Atlanta's backfield. But Patterson's style of play and multi-tasking profile will definitely give him chances every week whether those come on rush- or pass-plays. Definitely someone to roster in deeper leagues and start in good matchups through the year.
