ANALYSIS: Back-to-back top-10 finishes? Not bad? QB1 status two weeks into the season? Sublime. All of that even while throwing the ball to a subpar group of pass-catchers? Fantastic. Derek Carr has always been a boring fantasy player and not the definition of excitement, precisely, but he's always handed good-enough scores to his fantasy GMs. To kick 2021 off, Carr has reached 22.2 FP in both games he's played so far and currently has the Raiders as one of only two teams with a perfect 2-0 record. What's not to like?
In his second start of the year, Carr put up 22.2 FP to the tune of 28 completions on 37 passing attempts for 382 yards and a couple of touchdowns to go with that. All of those marks were down from his counting numbers posted back in W1, which means Carr is a more than viable fantasy player these days at the quarterback position still widely available in most leagues out there.
Carr is not going to rack up rushing yards nor scores (just 15 combined yards on the ground on 8 carries through W2), but if he can keep throwing for his two touchdowns per game and limiting interceptions/fumbles (he threw a pick in W1, none in W2; he fumbled once in W1 and twice this past Sunday) he'd stay on the low-QB1/high-QB2 realm weekly. Carr is definitely a starter in deeper leagues, a must-have in 2QB ones, and a spot-play to throw in the lineup in tasty matchups for those in shallower formats.
