Maxx Williams (TE, ARI) - Week 3 Waiver Wire Pickups

ANALYSIS: Let's make something very clear: saying that Maxx Williams--or any Cardinals tight end, for that matter--is a vital part of Arizona's offense would translate to blatantly lying. It is what it is, folks, and we have to accept it as a true fact. That's why Williams is rostered in almost no Yahoo leagues at all, and why the likes of DeAndre Hopkins, Christian Kirk, and Rondale Moore look more promising than the tight end. But...

But Week 2 happened. And QB Kyler Murray brought fantasy goodies for everyone in the receiving corps, including Maxx! After his goose egg in Week 1 (1 target, no production at all), Williams racked up looks with 7 targets of which he hauled in all 7 for 94 yards. It's a shame he couldn't get the rock to the end zone, but that's the only thing he lacked in an otherwise fantastic performance that amounted to 16.4 PPR points and a TE3 finish pending MNF.

Again, and just in case you missed it in the paragraph above: Maxx Williams was targeted once in Week 1 and couldn't even catch that pass. That along with a sturdy teammate-competition for targets cuts Williams' upside in half, thus the low--nonexistent--rostership he has these days. Performances like Sunday's definitely prove Williams' value if all things click and go his way, but I think this W2 game speaks more about Arizona/Kyler's offense as a whole rather than Maxx's own potential exploits. Nothing more than a deeper-league guy to consider going forward, and definitely a fade in any format set up at-or-below 12 teams.
