Clarke Schmidt Sent Back To Triple-A On Monday
3 years agoThe New York Yankees optioned starting pitcher Clarke Schmidt to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre after their 6-5 win over the Minnesota Twins on Monday. The 25-year-old Schmidt was called up from Triple-A to make his 2021 debut against the New York Mets on Sunday. He pitched 4 1/3 innings in the game and allowed seven hits, three walks and five runs (two earned) while striking out two. It's been an injury-plagued year for Schmidt, though he's managed some success in the minors. Over 27.1 innings spread across multiple levels of the minors this year, Schmidt has a 2.96 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP with 11.2 K/9. There's a solid chance he'll get another spot start with the Yankees before the end of the regular season. He may also find himself in a relief role with the team.
