John Gant Strikes Out Season-High Seven Batters
3 years agoMinnesota Twins starting pitcher John Gant produced one of his better starts of the season in Tuesday's win over the Indians. Gant struck out a season-high seven batters over five shutout innings, walking four while allowing three hits. The 29-year-old generated 12 swinging strikes, including eight of them on his changeup, which has been by far his best pitch, as evidenced by its 38.1 percent whiff rate and .222 opponent batting average against. Gant is just 1-3 since joining the Twins, though he has exhibited much better control, with a 32:10 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 26 innings. He's an option for those in deeper formats, but his upcoming matchup against the Yankees isn't a particularly appealing one.
