Sandy Alcantara Managed Out Of A Quality Start
3 years agoMiami Marlins starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara suffered from poor managerial decisions from Don Mattingly once again in Thursday's start against the New York Mets. Alcantara had a quality start locked down, but was allowed to go back out for the seventh inning, facing the Mets order for a fourth time. Marlins manager Don Mattingly's utter lack of baseball knowledge has cost Alcantara plenty in the past, and this was just a minor example. In total, the Marlins ace went 6 1/3 innings, allowing four runs on eight hits without issuing a walk and striking out six. After his six strong innings to start the game, there was no reason to stretch him into the seventh. The Marlins have excellent young starting pitchers, and they deserve better than to be managed by Mattingly. Signed through next season, the Marlins starters, despite their talent, will always have their value limited by their manager.
