Jake Browning Waived, Kellen Mond Wins Backup Job
3 years agoThe Minnesota Vikings are waiving quarterback Jake Browning. In three preseason games, Browning completed 13-of-33 passes, throwing for 154 yards and one interception. Rookie Kellen Mond will be the backup for Kirk Cousins as of right now, though the Vikings may still be looking to sign another quarterback. During the preseason, Mond stood out, completing 28-of-51 passes and throwing for 310 yards and one interception. Neither quarterback threw a touchdown, but Mike Zimmer felt that Mond took advantage of his opportunity compared to Browning. Unless the Vikings become a late runner to sign Cam Newton or another veteran quarterback, Kirk Cousins will be the starter, and Kellen Mond will be the backup. The Vikings head to Cincinnati to take on the Bengals for their season opener.
