Caves Valley Is Not the Best Fit for Jordan Spieth
4 years agoWhile Jordan Spieth certainly has the game to compete anywhere, Caves Valley is not an ideal fit for his skillset. Compared to other players in his price range, Spieth is by far the worst mid to long iron player, ranking 64th out of 70 players in this field in proximity from 200 yards plus. The three-time major winner also possesses the shakiest off the tee game of all the elite options, ranking below average in strokes gained off the tee, driving distance, and fairways gained. While his stats are certainly juked from a final round 79 at the Northern Trust, Spieth will need to rely much more heavily on his short game and putting than other players in his price range to compete here.

Jordan Spieth A Boom-Or-Bust Candidate At Valspar Championship
2 weeks agoTo say that Jordan Spieth had an adventurous week at The PLAYERS is an understatement. He finished the tournament in 59th place after carding two eagles, 12 birdies, 14 bogeys, and three doubles while still impressively gaining 5.322 strokes around the green -- second-best in the field. He now turns his attention to the Valspar Championship, an event he won in 2015. To repeat this success at Copperhead, Spieth will need to be precise from tee to green and sharp with his short game. He currently ranks 60th in strokes gained from tee to green (0.367 per round) and 33rd around the green (0.287). However, he is just 132nd on approach (minus-0.259), 98th in driving accuracy, and 94th in putting (0.013). He is also in only the 23rd percentile for proximity from 150-200 yards over the past 12 months, a range that accounted for 37% of all approach shots here last year. Given his recent form, it will be hard to trust Spieth at his $9,100 price tag on DraftKings, but fantasy managers who play him have the potential to be rewarded handsomely.

Jordan Spieth Looking To Change Fortunes At TPC Sawgrass
3 weeks agoJordan Spieth has had a primarily boom-or-bust 2025 season. He has only played in four events, finished top-10 in two of them, T-69, and missed the cut. Coming off of wrist surgery, Spieth's game looks much improved from last season, and he is starting to revive parts that have failed him over the previous several years—he ranks 55th on tour in strokes gained putting and 54th in strokes gained off the tee. The downside for this week is his less-than-mediocre course history at TPC Sawgrass and his below-average iron play. He's missed the cut six times in his 10 starts at the stadium course, and his last top-10 finish was in 2014, his first start in the event. Spieth is a risky play this week in DFS.

Jordan Spieth Looking To Bounce Back In Cognizant Classic Debut
1 month agoJordan Spieth struggled at the Genesis Invitational, missing the cut after opening rounds of 76-74. Given his past struggles at Torrey Pines, we're willing to overlook this result. Before that, he finished T4 at the Phoenix Open and T69 at Pebble Beach. Spieth has been mostly average this year statistically, gaining just 0.071 total strokes per round. However, the area where he has not been himself is around the greens, where he has lost 0.525 strokes through his first three events. This will also be Spieth's first time playing in the Cognizant Classic, where accuracy off the tee and efficiency on approach will be key. He currently ranks just 148th in driving accuracy but sits in the 75th percentile in greens in regulation from 150-200 yards, a distance that accounts for 48.1% of all approach shots at PGA National. Without course history or any data suggesting his game is trending in the right direction for this event, including Spieth in a fantasy lineup feels like a bit of a gamble. However, at $8,600 on DraftKings, his upside is too good to ignore.

Jordan Spieth Finding Form Heading To Genesis Invitational
2 months agoJordan Spieth tied for fourth at last week's Waste Management Phoenix Open. He is now focusing on preparing for this week's Genesis Invitational, which will take place at Torrey Pines in La Jolla, California. Torrey Pines also hosted the Farmers Insurance Open last month. Notably, over 22% of approach shots during that tournament came from over 200 yards. In the past 12 months, Spieth has ranked in the 70th percentile for greens in regulation percentage on approach shots over 200 yards in the fairway. While Spieth played well last week, his past performances at Torrey Pines suggest that including him in DFS lineups this week carries some risk.
