Larry Rountree III Could Become The No. 2 Back
3 years agoLos Angeles Chargers rookie running back Larry Rountree III has the opportunity to take over the RB2 position behind Austin Ekeler on the depth chart. Justin Jackson suffered a groin injury during the preseason game against the Rams. Joshua Kelley was falling on the depth chart prior to the first preseason game, and he struggled against the Rams -- eight carries for just 19 yards. Rountree also saw eight carries, but he turned that into 63 yards in the Chargers 13-6 win over the Rams. Rountree is 5-foot-10, 211 pounds. He has a similar build to Ekeler, however, he could be the red-zone back. Rountree has already shown his ability to be explosive. If he can duplicate his performance in at least one other preseason game, he could oust Jackson and Kelley while locking down the RB2 spot for the Bolts. The 23-year-old sixth-round pick could be a late-round steal if he ends up winning the No. 2 job in an explosive offense. Don't forget his name, especially if you draft Ekeler.
