Larry Rountree III Impresses In Preseason Debut
3 years agoLos Angeles Chargers rookie running back Larry Rountree III was impressive in his first preseason game versus the Los Angeles Rams. Rountree has been getting a lot of buzz in training camp and he backed that up with eight carries for 63 yards. Rountree outplayed veteran Justin Jackson and sophomore Joshua Kelley statistically and it wasn't even close in the contest. Jackson also suffered a groin injury and depending on the severity, Rountree could get even more opportunities moving forward. Kelley had a rough rookie season and didn't do much in Saturday's game to make a strong case to be Austin Ekeler's top insurance option. The new Chargers coaching staff has no history with Jackson and Kelley, but they spent a sixth-round pick on Rountree in the 2021 draft and the rookie has been impressive thus far. Whoever backs up Ekeler will be one of the top insurance policies in the league and Rountree is shaping up to have sleeper appeal in all formats, especially for Ekeler managers. He is a name to keep an eye on at the end of drafts.
