Jason Heyward Placed On Injured List, Greg Deichmann Called Up
3 years agoChicago Cubs outfielder Jason Heyward (finger) has been placed on the 10-day injured list with left index finger inflammation. Heyward is one of the few veterans left on the Cubs current roster, but has been having a rough season at the plate. The outfielder is hitting a dismal .198 with six home runs and 22 RBI in 83 games. Even when healthy, Heyward should be avoided in all formats. Outfield prospect Greg Deichmann will replace Heyward on the active roster and will make his big-league debut on Friday versus the Chicago White Sox. Deichmann was acquired from the Oakland Athletics for relief pitcher Andrew Chafin on July 26. Deichmann was hitting .291 with four home runs and 36 RBI between Triple-A Las Vegas and Triple-A Iowa and should see a fair amount of playing time with the Cubs transitioning to a rebuild in the second half. Deichmann can be left on the waiver wire for now.
