Philadelphia Phillies @ Washington Nationals
O/U: 8 | Moneyline: WAS +144
PHI: Zack Wheeler| WAS: Patrick Corbin
This is a line I want to grab before it jumps too high. The Phillies won in late-inning fashion yesterday, beating out the debuting Josiah Gray in his first start with the Nationals. Today they get Patrick Corbin, who I can confidently say is not Josiah Gray. Well, not anymore at least. Corbin has not pitched well this season. He did have one good start against the Phillies in this campaign, going seven innings and allowing one earned run while striking out nine back on May 13. However, things did not go so well for him in his last start against Philly, going just five innings and allowing four earned runs last Thursday.
The Phillies are 8th in all of baseball in OPS against left-handed pitching and I expect that trend to continue tonight. They'll be sending their ace Zack Wheeler to the bump for this one. Wheeler hasn't been as dominant of late as he was before the All-Star Break, but he's still more than good enough to get the job done. The Phillies are still competing for the division, now just 2.5 games out, while the Nationals have waved the white flag this year. Back the Phils.
Pick: Phillies Moneyline (-172) FanDuel Sportsbook
San Francisco Giants @ Arizona Diamondbacks
O/U: 10 | Moneyline: ARI +152
SF: Johnny Cueto | ARI: Madison Bumgarner
A reunion of sorts tonight in Arizona, as Madison Bumgarner takes the hill against his former team for the first time this season. MadBum hasn't been extremely poor like some expected him to be in this campaign, and he has seemed to turn the clock back in a few of his starts. I say turn the clock back as if the dude didn't only just turn 32 on Sunday. When he's been around for so long it really makes you feel like he's older than he is. But anyway, that's not the point.
I'll be fading MadBum and the Diamondbacks tonight, not necessarily on the premise that I think he'll pitch poorly. This is a fade on the fact that while I can't guarantee it, I can bet on the Diamondbacks bullpen taking an opportunity that Bumgarner has put them in, and squash it. I've personally made an absolute killing this year live betting against the Diamondbacks bullpen, including last night after the Giants nearly collapsed and Arizona tied the game up at eight apiece. The Dbacks bullpen then did what they do, which was give up runs.
The Giants will send Johnny Cueto to the mound. Cueto was solid last time out, throwing 5.2 scoreless innings against the Dodgers. While I don't think this will be a repeat performance, I think Cueto can shimmy his way through Arizona's lineup through five or six innings and hand the ball over to the best bullpen in baseball. The Giants bullpen wasn't "shut-down" as usual last night, but I expect them to do the dirty work and get the job done this evening. Grab the Giants.
Picks: SF Giants Moneyline (-180), FanDuel Sportsbook
Two chalkier plays today, but today seems like a slate where it'll be tough to find value. Regardless, let's get after it today! Be sure to follow me on Twitter @LucidMediaDFS for updates and more plays!
