ANALYSIS: "Mikey Biceps" has only seen 5.2 IP this season in five appearances after a late-July seasonal debut and then a quick IL stint in between, but he couldn't have arrived at a better time for the Cincinnati Reds, who are receiving plenty of reinforcements for their struggling bullpen. Michael Lorenzen holds a 0.00 ERA, 0.706 WHIP, three holds, and one save in his very limited time on the mound in 2021, with six strikeouts, just one walk, and zero home runs allowed.

On one hand, Lorenzen has allowed a 46.2% hard contact rate with 30.8% line drives, yet his BABIP of .231 would make him seem lucky. Fortunately, Lorenzen is also forcing ground balls at 61.5% frequency, which makes that BABIP figure look much more sustainable. Lorenzen forcing ground balls at the rate he was back in 2016 is good news, and the Reds have shown that they feel most comfortable in high-leverage innings when Lorenzen has a hand in the outcome. In deeper leagues, he's a sneaky option for holds, saves, and likely wins to come.
