Giants Plan "Long-Term Approach" With Saquon Barkley
3 years agoThe New York Giants plan to take a "long-term approach" with running back Saquon Barkley (knee) this summer, per head coach Joe Judge. There's reportedly still a chance he could be ready by Week 1. "We're thinking long term with Saquon; long term in the season, long term in his career," Judge said. "And by taking care of him individually, that is going to help our team long term as well. We're going to make sure when we get him out there; we can keep him out there." The 24-year-old began training camp on the Giants preseason Physically Unable to Perform List as he continues to recover from surgery last year to repair an ACL tear. "And we've got to make sure we do the best thing for him as we go along the way and make sure we make decisions based on his body and not some artificially anticipated timeline. When he's ready to go, that is when he's going to be out there," Judge added. Barkley is expected to have a reduced workload to begin the season as the Giants will be extra careful with their star running back this summer. The No.2 pick of the 2018 NFL Draft has an ADP of 5.8 in upcoming fantasy drafts, but that number could drop if Barkley isn't ready to suit up by Week 1. Barring injury, Barkley has the talent to finish as a high-end RB1 in 2021.
