Justin Dunn, Justus Sheffield On The Mend
3 years agoSeattle Mariners starting pitchers Justin Dunn (shoulder) and Justus Sheffield (forearm, oblique) are making progress. Dunn will start throwing off a mound in five days, while Sheffield has resumed playing light catch. Dunn has been out since mid-June with a right shoulder strain, but he'll be a solid option to return to the M's rotation after he recorded a 3.75 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 49/29 K/BB in 50 1/3 innings over his 11 starts before the injury. His 13.3 percent walk rate could easily get him in trouble when he returns, though. Sheffield went on the injured list this month with a left flexor strain and a Grade 2 oblique strain, so he'll certainly need more time before Seattle considers him an option for the rotation again, especially since the 25-year-old lefty had a 6.48 ERA when he got hurt.
