Shane Lowry Sets Up For A Strong Title Defense
3 years agoShane Lowry memorably claimed victory at this tournament in 2019, and while retaining the Claret Jug feels like a big ask, there is no reason to believe that Lowry cannot compete this week. The Irishman has quietly been playing some really solid golf this year, with four top-10 finishes in his last eight starts, including a ninth-place finish at the RBC Heritage, and a fourth-place finish at the PGA Championship, both coastal golf courses. Lowry's struggles remain with the flat-stick, as he has lost over a stroke putting in three of his last four starts, including -5.4 strokes at the U.S. Open. I'm concerned that Lowry might be lost with that club, as over his last 36 rounds, he ranks 135th in putting from five-to-ten feet, and 141st in three-putt-avoidance. With that being said, the ball-striking remains top-notch, and he is certainly comfortable on a links golf course.
