Abraham Ancer Makes Sense on Paper at Royal St. George's
3 years agoAbraham Ancer has missed the cut in his only two Open Championship appearances, but he does possess a style of play that should translate well to links golf. Over his last 36 rounds, the University of Oklahoma product ranks third in good drives gained, ninth in three-putt-avoidance, and first in par four scoring (400-450 yards). Royal St. George's does possess ten par fours between 400-460 yards! He has won the Australian Open on a barren, windswept golf course, and he has an incredible track record on positional golf courses that require one to lay-up off the tee and be precise on approach. Ancer has still yet to win on the PGA Tour, and it's hard to imagine him making the Open Championship his first. With that being said, I believe he stands a decent chance to finish in the top-25 this week.
