Dustin Poirier Takes First-Round Victory After Bizarre Stoppage
3 years agoIt was all Dustin Poirier in the rubber match on Saturday, as he defeated Conor McGregor via doctor stoppage (first-round TKO) after McGregor stepped back and broke the base of his shin near the ankle with about 10 seconds to go in the first round. In 4:50 of action, Poirier landed 36 significant strikes along with one takedown. Poirier looks to be at the absolute peak of his career with very few looking to be able to stand toe-to-toe with the Louisiana native. It looks like a showdown with lightweight champion Charles Olivera is up next for the Diamond.
