Yan Gomes Dealing With Oblique Injury
3 years agoWashington Nationals catcher Yan Gomes (oblique) left the game early in the middle of the second inning on Friday against the San Francisco Giants with a left oblique injury. The Nationals will know more on the severity of Gomes' injury on Saturday, but with just two games until the All-Star break, Gomes' first half is likely finished. Tres Barrera entered the game in place of Gomes and had a two-run triple in the game. With Alex Avila (calf) on the injured list, Barrera would likely become the primary catcher if Gomes misses time to begin the second half of the season. Gomes has been an option in two-catcher leagues, hitting .266/.320/.439 with eight home runs and 33 RBI in 214 at-bats this year, but oblique injuries often require injured list stints.
