Lance McCullers Jr. Takes Loss Despite Solid Outing
3 years agoHouston Astros starter Lance McCullers Jr. pitched seven strong innings but took the loss in the team's 2-1 loss to the A's on Thursday. McCullers Jr. (6-2) allowed only two runs and punched out eight Oakland hitters despite taking the loss. The right-handed starter has been wildly effective lately, allowing two or fewer runs in each of his last five starts. He has posted a 2.77 ERA over his last seven outings but has walked 21 batters over his last 39 innings pitched. McCullers Jr. will head into the break as a solid source of wins and strikeouts in fantasy-category formats but his lack of control could, at some point, come back to bite him down the road.
