Kadarius Toney Expected To Be Brought Along Slowly
3 years agoThe Athletic's Dan Duggan expects the New York Giants to bring rookie wide receiver Kadarius Toney along slowly after he missed a lot of offseason work with cleat problems, minor injuries, an unsigned contract and a family emergency. There are a lot of character concerns with Toney, but he has a high ceiling if he reaches his true potential. He has plenty of playmaking ability, but he also needs refinement as a route-runner heading into his rookie season. Toney should be the starting punt returner from Week 1, but his offensive snaps will likely start with specialized packages with the hope that he'll eventually grow into a larger role as the season progresses. The 22-year-old from Florida could make some splash plays at times, but he doesn't figure to see the field enough in a crowded group of Giants pass-catchers to have much appeal in redraft leagues in 2021.
